The other day I hauled my laptop to the West Village to write. I sat down at DOMA and scored a window seat looking at the brownstone, brick, and wispy tree-lined Perry Street. At a certain point, I looked up and saw a telephone booth out the window. At first I thought, remember telephone booths? They barely have them in San Francisco anymore with so many people using cell phones now. But then I looked closer and saw this:



I added the x's, obviously, before posting, because of how very inaccurate human perception can be. But I must say it has been at least 15 years since I've seen something like this. It threw me. I walked out to get a closer look and it's a sticker than someone had manufactured and plastered around the city. Intense.

What happened to I Heart New York T-shirts?

Both have given me plenty to think about for the novel.
